A money decision

How to ask AI for help with a money decision

You have extra cash, a card balance, or a choice between saving and paying something down. A vague prompt gets a vague lecture. AI is not your accountant. Used well, it is a second pair of eyes on the tradeoffs.

1. Put the numbers in, even if they are rough

Income stability, high-interest debt, months of expenses saved, ages, and whether this is a one-time lump or a monthly leftover. Round numbers are fine. Silence is not. The model will invent a life if you do not describe yours.

2. Say what “winning” means

Sleeping at night, being debt-free by a date, or not touching retirement money — those are different problems. If you care about risk more than a slightly better return, write that down. Otherwise it will optimize for the wrong scoreboard.

3. Demand the assumption that would flip the answer

Ask it to recommend one path, list what it is assuming, and name the one fact that would change the advice. That is how you catch a confident wrong answer.

4. This is not tax or investment advice

Use the prompt to think clearly, then confirm with a person who knows your taxes. Promptwright writes the brief. You take it to Grok or ChatGPT, then to a professional if the dollars are real.
